About: Students for a National Health Program (SNaHP) at EVMS is one of many student chapters of Physicians for a National Health Program (PNHP), a non-profit national organization composed of physicians dedicated towards the grassroots advocacy of a single-payer healthcare system in America. In a single-payer system, taxpayer money is used to pay for the population’s medical services with minimal cost-sharing. Single-payer already exists in many developed countries and in the United States as Medicare, Medicaid, and other government programs. With just one insurer rather than thousands, Medicare for All would greatly reduce the administrative waste needed to maintain the existing complicated system. In addition the government would have more bargaining power to negotiate for reduced drug prices. As a result, healthcare would be much more accessible to everyone and more cost-effective all around.
We are interested in education, discussion, and political advocacy. All viewpoints are welcome.
