The SafeZone Initiative, brought to EVMS in 2015, aims to train faculty and, now, student leaders, to become knowledgeable and helpful in LGBTQ issues and resources. Read more about the SafeZone initiative here. Find Allies who have completed the SafeZone training here.
What have we accomplished?
EVMS Alliance in 2019-2020
This year EVMS Alliance has built on National Coming Out Day by hosting a clothes drive with donations benefiting TapVA(Transgender Assistance Program of Virginia). Our group has volunteered at the LGBT LifeCenter and help packaged meals for families in need during the holidays. Our efforts for 2020 are to be more engaged in the Community and be a better resource to all beneficiaries. EVMS Alliance continues to be supported by the Office of Diversity and Inclusion as well as Student Affairs in achieving its goals.
EVMS Alliance in 2018-2019
This year EVMS Alliance has built on past accomplishments to expand our school celebration of National Coming Out Day, advertise SafeZone training to a wide audience, and invite guest speakers to EVMS with the goal of fostering well rounded, LGBTQ-inclusive healthcare professionals. We met with innovative faculty interested in introducing new LGBTQ-inclusive curriculum to the MD program and members presented LGBTQ-focused public health research at EVMS Research Day. EVMS Alliance continues to be supported by the Office of Diversity and Inclusion as well as Student Affairs in achieving its goals.
