Dean’s Hour: Wednesday, April 15 12:00-1:00 PM

·         Faculty members share their stories. Storytelling is a powerful tool to share experiences and send the message that you are not alone!  Three faculty will share their stories of personal or academic challenges.

Lester Hall Now Equipped With Microwaves and a Keurig!

·         Thanks to your Student Affairs Committee members, four new microwaves have been installed in the vending machine area on the first floor of Lester Hall.  A Keurig coffee maker will arrive very shortly.  Enjoy!

 

Safe Zone Workshop Coming to EVMS’ Campus

·         In the spirit of building a community of inclusion at EVMS, the offices of Diversity & Inclusion and Student Affairs are bringing the national Safe Zone program to campus!  Safe Zone programs promote support of LGBTQ students, staff, faculty and residents through education and training to establish identifiable allies who are supportive, trustworthy, and sensitive to the needs of LGBTQ.  Safe Zone aims to make campuses a safer and freer environment for all members of a community, regardless of gender identity and sexual orientation

·         EVMS will roll this program out in several phases but the first workshop for staff and faculty is being held Monday, April 27th

Issues in Transgender Health Panel: Monday, April 13th 6:00- 8:00 PM

·         Come learn about important issues in trans* health from a panel of speakers, including patients who identify on the trans* spectrum, mental health professionals and an MD who has done gender reassignment surgeries for transitioning patients.

·         The panel will be presented in an informal, Q-and-A format, covering topics that range from issues in physical and mental health to financial concerns to social issues and challenges. Please join us for an eye-opening discussion on a very important but often overlooked topic.

The Current State of Medicine: Speaker VA’s Lieutenant Governor, Dr. Ralph Northam: Tuesday, April 14th 12:00- 1:00 PM

·         EVMS’ AMA/MSV chapter is very excited to have Virginia’s Lieutenant Governor, Dr. Ralph Northam speak about the current state of medicine, where he sees it going in the future, and what we can do about it.

·         This is a great opportunity to figure out how you want to make your mark on our field.

·         We will have food from Yummy Wok- free for AMA/MSV members, $3 for non members. Of course, we encourage you to join AMA/MSV if you haven’t already, so you can take advantage of all the other perks of membership as well!

"Starving: A Visual Exploration of Anorexia.": Thursday, April 16th 5:00- 7:00 PM

·         Reland Happel, a Graduate Art Therapy and Counseling students will be holding an educational art exhibition.  

·         The purpose of this show is to inform and educate the public about the real dangers of anorexia nervosa and about treatment options.  

·         This show is open to the general public and admission is free.  Please come and support this cause."

·         Want to learn to sail? Sail Nauticus is a community sailing center!

Community Care Day: Saturday, April 18th 9:00 AM-2:00 PM

·         Students will offer important health screenings free of charge. These can include blood sugar screenings, Body Mass Index (BMI), blood pressure, hearing, vision and skin cancer checks. There also will be student-run health information booths as well as the Maury High School science fair judged by EVMS students. Learn more.

Join the MPH Classes in Running the Purple Stride 5k: Saturday, April 18th 7:00-11:00 AM

·         The MPH program would like you to join them in running the PurpleStride 5k event on April 18th, which helps raise money for pancreatic cancer research.

·         MPH2015 student, Barbra Geraghty, lost her father to the disease and organizes and operates the PurpleStride 5k annually.

·         The MPH program would like to invite interested EVMS students and alumni to participate in the event as runners, walkers, or volunteers.

Christian Medical and Dental Association (CMDA) Bible Study: Every Monday 12:00- 1:00 PM

EVMS Swimming Club: Every Tuesday and Thursday from 7:30- 8:30 PM

 

·         The Blocker YMCA has given EVMS Swim Club two lanes for practicing on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 7:30-8:30 PM.

·         If you are already a member of the YMCA it is free to be part of the swim club.

EVMS Knitting & Crochet Club: Every Thursday 12:00- 1:00 PM

·         The EVMS Knitting / Crochet club is a no dues casual club. 

·         Don’t know how to knit or crochet?  We’ll teach you!

·         For our beginners we’ve got some knitting needles you can borrow and some scrap yarn you can have!

·         (Eventually beginners you’ll want to bring 100% cotton yarn a crochet hook G / H/ I or if you want to learn to knit size 7 bamboo or wooden knitting needles.  You can knit a dish rag!)

·         Everyone else just bring the project you are working on.  (Forgot your project?  Come anyway!)

·         Lunch is not provided.  If you want to bring your lunch with you please do.
